Asunción has special lunch restaurants called comedores, that don't show up on google maps. They are cheap, delicious, and homemade.
Comedores are small, sometimes unofficial restuarants that serve lunch on weekdays in Paraguay. They often have limited menu's and their food feels homemade. In fact, some of the owners who run the comedor, live in the same house that its run out of. That's right! Sometimes it feel like your eating in somebody's personal dining room.
The standard price is 18,000 Guaranies, which is about $2.30. This covers a main protein and a side dish. If you want to buy a bottled drink, it will bring the total price closer to $3.50. Some comedores charge the same price for whatever dish you order, while others have pricing ranging from 16,000 G's to 30,000 G's.
Since comedores rarely show up on google maps, we marked them off with stars here. The first one, on Quesada street, is the most professional with the most options. The others are more hidden and homestyle.
Food pricing and freshness varies in Paraguayan cities. Asunción is not on any coast, and it's river is unfortunately polluted. Therefore, its hard to find truly fresh fish. However, one can easily find fresh fish in Ciudad del Este, according to Work Wealth and Travel.
